about

Mastered more times than could be mentioned by James A. Dean at Electric Sounds.

SLR022

What if material influenced its own assembly?

Water will always find a level, a scientific fact as well as an aphorism on value. What about other substances? What about the nascent materials that formed the two hundred tons of concrete Mussolini used to attempt to stabilise the (Leaning) Tower of Pisa?

The sonic material here dictated its use, with your humble artist only present in some digital dowsing form. The *presentation* though took painful elastic weeks/years (months/quarters).

More to come, but if we don't stop here now it will never be released.

VITAL WEEKLY REVIEW

As Automating, Sasha Margolis has had a bunch of releases. I enjoyed most of them so far and Automating moves all over the place with his sound collages. As such this new one is not really different. There is found sound in the form of an opera singer, delay/reverb work, field recordingsand drones. All of this is manipulated using computers or cassettes; well, or a combination of both. I am not sure there, just as I have not a very clear idea of how this music was made otherwise, whether or not there are instruments used. I would believe some form of sampling is surely used, sound effects are used, and I would guess some synthesizer is in place. If I had to compare the
music of Automating with something, I would think in way Nurse With Wound's use of the studio as an instrument is surely one. It might very well be that Margolis took the name of his musical project from the various volumes that Nurse With Wound released to compile various bits and pieces from compilations. Margolis doesn't cover the entire spectrum of Nurse With Wound, but more specifically the use of drones and found sound. He does quite a fine job at that and these eight pieces, ranging from four to fifteen minutes proof. It's never too long or too brief and done with some great power and style.

Automating Melbourne, Australia

Automating is Sasha from Melbourne, Australia. Sifting through the sonic waste and discarded technology left by the roadside of a world speeding too fast into the future. Field recordings, found sound, tape manipulation, noise and effects units. Currently pursuing live and studio created binaural soundscapes and archaic tape based drones. ... more
